Demetra Kalogerou, Chair of the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission(CySEC), will not only welcome all attendees of Nakamoto’s Den in the official Opening Speech, but she will be also participating in our thought-provoking EU Regulations Panel Discussion. Nakamoto’s Den is the biggest blockchain event of Cyprus in 2019. About the speaker:
Demetra Kalogerou (BSc, MSc, MPhil) is the Chairwoman of the Securities and Exchange Commission since September 2011, the independent public supervisory Authority responsible for the supervision of the investment services market, transactions in transferable securities carried out in the Republic of Cyprus and the collective investment and asset management sector. Moreover, it also supervises the firms offering administrative services which do not fall under the supervision of ICPAC and the Cyprus Bar Association. The vision of the CySEC is to establish the Cyprus securities market as one of the safest, most reliable and attractive destinations for investment, and its mission is to exercise effective supervision to ensure investor protection and the healthy development of the securities market.
Also, as of November 2012, Mrs. Kalogerou is a member of the Cyprus Public Audit Oversight Board, which has been established for the oversight of auditors and audit firms. Furthermore, from September of 2013 until June of 2014, Mrs. Kalogerou has been a member of the Resolution Authority, with the Minister of Finance and the Governor of Central Bank of Cyprus, which supervised the implementation of the resolution of financial institutions in Cyprus.
Mrs. Kalogerou previously held the position of a Senior Officer of the Cyprus Stock Exchange and overall she has more than 15 years’ experience in the financial sector. Her duties as a Senior Officer at the CSE included the supervision of transactions in transferable securities and the various CSE markets, the monitoring of compliance of listed public companies with their continuous obligations, the research and development of new products, as well as the promotion of financial markets.
As a result of the above responsibilities and mainly of its prominent role in the leadership of the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission, Mrs. Kalogerou developed an in-depth knowledge on all aspects of the securities market and acquired extensive experience in matters relating to the smooth and orderly development of securities markets and investor protection.
